Die Platte.

The Cutting Board · Berlin MMXXVI

§ Nº 01 — The Object

Not a kitchen accessory. A small piece of architecture that happens to cut bread.

Form An elongated hexagon, softened. The silhouette reads as one gesture — no seams, no joinery, no compromise.

§ Nº 02 — Material

02.Honey-toned
European beech.

Nº 01 resting on a Berlin windowsill

Each board is cut from a single plank of European beech — slow-grown, dense, and even in the grain.

We choose this wood for how it ages — a honey that deepens with the years, the grain pulling darker with every meal. No veneers. No glue lines. No edge-banding. What you receive is the board we cut from the tree.

Drilled hanging hole — detail
The Hole01 / 03

Ø 22 mm, drilled at 14° to align with the grain. Chamfered on both sides, finished smooth enough to pass a linen thread through by hand.

Chamfered corner — detail
The Chamfer02 / 03

Every edge breaks at 45° over 4 mm. Planed, then sanded to 400 grit. The board sits in the hand the way a stone sits in the palm — warm, weighted, honest.

Board on slate — shadow study
The Shadow03 / 03

Photographed on slate, morning light, unstyled. We trust the form to hold its own without a prop, a ribbon, or a bouquet of rosemary.

§ Nº 03 — Ritual

A board that
asks a little
in return.

01
Wash by hand, dry on its edge.
Warm water, a soft cloth. Let air pass around it. Never the dishwasher.
02
Oil once a month, more if it asks.
A capful of Leinölfirnis (boiled linseed oil). Work it in along the grain with a linen cloth. Wait twenty minutes. Wipe.
03
Let it mark.
Knife lines, beet juice, olive oil that has bled into the grain — these are the record. We are not precious about them, and neither should you be.

In use. In Berlin. In no particular hurry.
